These Ears Were Made for Listening

In the digital world, our every move is tracked, and content pre-sorted for us. Practical, yes. But we find ourselves in isolated bubbles as a result — echo chambers where our own interests seem to fill the world. And it‘s not just interests — but opinions, too.

As we co-exist in these spaces, it feels as if our views, shared by those inhabiting our bubble with us, are the only correct ones. When different opinions do surface, opposition is often vehemently rejected. Since mindsets are rarely changed by telling someone they're wrong, we’re often left feeling restricted, stuck in an inhibiting stagnation.

So, in 2024, I’m going to listen more.

To consume media that isn’t targeted at me and seek out people with different opinions and perspectives. Ask questions, and lots of them. If I can understand what’s behind people’s opinions, I can reach them in a different way – and hopefully – end some of the stagnation.

TAKEAWAY

If I can understand what’s behind people’s opinions, I can reach them in a different way – and hopefully – end some of the stagnation.
